ISRC (International Standard Recording Code) is a unique identifier assigned to each sound recording. It is used worldwide for royalty tracking, revenue distribution, and correct matching on digital platforms.
ISRC Format
An ISRC code consists of 12 characters: CC-XXX-YY-NNNNN
- CC — Country code (e.g. TR, US, GB)
- XXX — Registrant code
- YY — Year of assignment (last two digits)
- NNNNN — Unique designation number
Example: TR-ABC-24-00001
Why ISRC Matters
- Ensures your track is correctly identified on Spotify, Apple Music, and other DSPs
- Guarantees royalties are routed to the correct account
- Facilitates performance royalty tracking for radio and TV broadcasts
- Each remix, live version, or different master requires a separate ISRC
How to Get an ISRC
When you distribute through SOOLY Music, an ISRC is automatically assigned to each track. If you have your own ISRC block, you can specify it during distribution. To obtain an ISRC block, apply through your country's ISRC agency.
Separate ISRC for Each Version
Different versions of the same song must have different ISRCs: album version, radio edit, remix, live recording, instrumental, and acapella.
Distribution without ISRC or with incorrect ISRC can result in lost or misrouted royalty payments.
